One of the top smartphone manufacturers in the Indian market has been Oppo. They have made large investments to increase India’s capacity for producing smartphones. We recently spoke with Oppo India’s Chief Marketing Officer, Damyant Singh Khanoria. The interaction’s extracts are shown below.
Oppo 5G Strategy
What kind of testing is Oppo conducting to ensure that its devices effortlessly deliver such capabilities to users as 5G networks go out in India?
Damyant: Oppo was a leader in the development of 5G technology in India and has been steadfastly working with the Indian government, many research institutions, and telecom companies to help roll out 5G in India. To give its customers the most complete 5G experience, OPPO established new directions and technologies by organising the first-ever 5G field testing across numerous cities at various frequency bands and scenarios. In order to assist India in ground-breaking 5G technologies and applications, we also launched our 5G innovation lab there.
We are a key player in VONR, SA network slicing, DSS, and other technologies. We also hold the most patents pertaining to the 5G standard. All of our 5G devices currently support 5G on a non-standalone network, and customers can enjoy lag-free cloud gaming, flawless video calling, and incredibly quick data upload and download speeds on all OPPO 5G smartphones across all categories.
Oppo India R&D’s team has also been striving to offer standalone 5G functionality as soon as possible. Our team started a rigorous R&D process in September 2022 for the SA upgrade on our smartphones, and they are currently working nonstop to have all of our 5G devices fully interoperable as soon as possible. According to OPPO, almost 4,900 families of international patent applications have been submitted and declared over 2200 families of 5G standard patents to the ETSI, and submitted more than 8,000 5G standard-related proposals to 3GPP.
