Time magazine declared Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and the space entrepreneur, as the person of the year 2021. Time says “the person of the year is not an award, but it is marker of influence. It is a reflection of impact, a way to capture the meaning of a moment. It is a chance to recognise the people who led us or even enraged us, the people who amused or inspired us.” The award normally goes to an individual or group of individuals who changed people’s lives within the last 12 months.
Elon Reeve Musk is a South African born American entrepreneur and business tycoon. He is the founder of SpaceX, maker of aerospace and co-founder of PayPal. SpaceX has teamed-up recently with NASA in launching missions. Mr. Musk is one of the major investors in Tesla, the manufacturers of automatic electric car.
Elon Musk overtook Amazon founder Jezz Bezos to became the wealthiest person of the world for 2021. In October Musk’s car company Tesla achieved the income above trillion dollars and he hit his wealth over $250 even during this pandemic. Musk says the SpaceX has plans to starting a program to take CO2 from atmosphere and convert in to rocket fuel. He is a prominent presence in the American industrial culture for recent years, having 66 million twitter followers. Musk is capable of changing the value of stock market and the value of cryptocurrency with a small tweet.
Times pointed out that Mr. Musk appeared as not only the world’s richest person but a richest example of greatest personality. He is very much ambitious in colonising Mars as a solution to some of the major problems of Earth, like climate conditions. Musk established SpaceX 20 years before with the intentions to give more focus on Mars. Musk said in an interview, “The next really big thing is to build a self-sustaining city on Mars and bring the animals and creatures of Earth there, sort of like a futuristic Noah’s ark. We’ll bring more than two, though — it’s a little weird if there’s only two.” He is hopeful on SpaceX mission in production of the Starship and bringing people in to Mars within the next 5 years.
Time’s choice of selecting Elon Musk is not universally accepted, because he has been criticised for the re-opening of his Tesla car factory violating the public health guidance during the epidemic. He also criticised in some of his tweets for making rude comments on certain individuals.
